State Animal Of California Hasn’t Been Seen In State Since 1922
Once a populous and dominant animal in the Sierra Nevada range of Central California, the Grizzly Bear roams no more. As the intensity surrounding the Gold Rush increased, the brown bear’s population decreased. Hunted, trapped or run out of town – researchers estimate as many as 10,000 Grizzlies once inhabited California. However, the last confirmed sighting was in 1922.
