Even though most of them are uninhabited, the state of Louisiana has the second most islands of any state (by acreage) in the U.S. 2,482 islands exist in the coastal state, totaling 1.3 million acres. In terms of total islands, Alaska takes the cake followed by Florida and then sitting in third place in Louisiana.
