A Beneficiary Is Still Collecting Payments From The Civil War.
Irene Triplett collects $73.13 cents every month from Uncle Sam. The 86-year-old is the daughter of Mose Triplett, a Confederate-turned-Union soldier. He became the girl’s father at a ripe young age of 83, which is why the pension payment has continued on for so long. In 2013, a Veterans Affairs employee put it like this, “The promises of President Abraham Lincoln are being delivered, 150 years later, by President Barack Obama.”
