38. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
It doesn’t break my heart much to mention this band. Having spun out such hits as “American Girl” and “Into the Great Wide Open,” this band — if not by repetition — has played itself relentlessly into our hearts and souls. There’s something about those timeless grooves and catchy riffs that enable the players to tap into something deep within us.
But the band also strikes all the chords of a top-tier rock band. While verging on the brim of classic rock, this band offers distorted melodies and crunchy deliveries. But pair this with superb musicianship coming from all different parts of the band and you are left with something that will last throughout the ages.
