The Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem
The Temple Mount is one of the holiest sites in the entire world. The temple, which is the holiest site for those of the Jewish faith, dates back to the first century BC. Sunni Muslims consider it holy, as well, after Mecca and Medina. Inside of the Temple Mount is a site that’s even more exclusive and holy – The Dome of the Rock.
This Islamic shrine is covered in gold and is an icon of the city of Jerusalem. Visitation to the Temple Mount is under strict rule, but the Dome of the Rock is only allowed to be entered by those that practice Islam. If you’re not a Muslim, you’re not allowed in.
