How to Get Through the Boring Parts of Your Day

No matter how much you enjoy your life and what you do, there are always bound to be some parts of the day that are just plain old boring. They may be things that are super easy, things you are required to do that don’t require much brain power, or something you normally enjoy may just not be sparking your interest. While these things are normal, finding a way to spice them up always makes it a little better.

Have Something to Look Forward To

When planning your day, try to arrange things so that you can do something you enjoy once you get through something you find boring or that you don’t like. While it may seem silly to reward yourself that way, it does wonders for your brain to have something to look forward to. You are much less likely to procrastinate or drag it out if there is something more engaging to look forward to. If you are stuck doing something for a certain amount of time, having something to look forward to after can also make time seem to go by faster.

Listen to Podcasts

Oftentimes, the things seem boring because they don’t require us to be mentally engaged or they are everyday routine things. If this is the case, you can use podcasts to engage your mind and make whatever you are doing more interesting. There are nearly a million podcasts on the internet. New ones are being launched all the time, so you shouldn’t have any problem finding one that fits your tastes. Most of them are even free, which makes listening to podcasts a great, low-cost hobby to pick up.

Break It Up

Doing the same thing for long stretches of time can get boring, even if you enjoy what you are doing. If you have the ability to do so, try breaking your routine up and switching activities to keep yourself invested. Not only does this keep you from getting bored, it can actually make you more productive as well. One of the most popular methods of breaking things up is the Pomodoro technique, where you work on something for a set amount of time, followed by a short break before you come back to the task. It may take some experimentation to find the method that works best for you, but once you do, you’ll never go back.

Boring parts of your day don’t have to stay boring and they don’t have to suck up all of your time. Use these strategies to stay more engaged with your work and to feel more productive with your whole day.
