1. Bumblebee: Bring the Whole Robot

Some costumes announce a character with a logo. Bumblebee needs an entire robot. This Transformers look is the sort of entrance that makes everyone else stop adjusting their vampire teeth and reach for a phone. The character’s familiar yellow-and-black design is only the starting point; the real appeal is the transformation from an ordinary person into a walking machine.
A convincing robot costume depends on proportions as much as surface detail. The head, shoulders, torso, and legs have to read as parts of the same mechanical body. Too much ordinary human silhouette breaks the illusion, while a thoughtfully built outline makes the character recognizable even from across a crowded room.
This example was photographed at New York Comic Con in 2017. It earns its place here for sheer ambition: instead of merely dressing as someone from a movie, the wearer takes on a character whose body is the costume. Subtle? Absolutely not. Memorable? Immediately.
